Deosai is a plateau at an elevation of 4114 meters (13,497 feet) above sea level and is the second highest plateau in the world. Located in Gilgit Baltistan, It is a designated national park to preserve the flora and fauna. Deosai is famous for its brown bears and its most common natives, the marmots. During spring, the plateau is covered with different species of flowers.

Geographically, the administrative territory of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (which excludes Gilgit-Baltistan) covers a total area of 13,297 km2 (5,134 sq mi) and has a total population of 4,045,366 as per the 2017 national census.
